چکیده

To clarify the role of metallothionein (MT), an antistress protein, induced by psychological stress, we carried out an experiment to determine whether hepatic MT synthesis induced by restraint stress can be classically conditioned by an olfactory odor cue of camphor. Mice were conditioned by exposure to the odor of camphor 1 hr before restraint stress and partly during restraint stress. Although exposure to the odor of camphor did not elevate hepatic MT levels in itself, the odor stimuli significantly elevated hepatic MT levels in mice conditioned for 3 days. The results indicate that MT synthesis is induced by an association of the central nervous system with psychological stress.

Biochemical and Molecular Roles of Nutrients Metallothionein Knockout and Transgenic Mice Exhibit Altered Intestinal Processing of Zinc with Uniform Zinc-Dependent Zinc Transporter-1 Expression

A role for metallothionein in intestinal zinc absorption has been the subject of considerable debate. If metallothionein affects zinc absorption, then those factors that induce metallothionein synthesis (e.g., heavy metals, hormones) should alter zinc absorption and homeostasis. The present studies used metallothionein transgenic mice (overexpressing) and metallothionein knockout mice (no expre...

Down-Regulation of Metallothionein 1 and 2 after Exposure to Electromagnetic Field in Mouse Testis

Background: It is proved that testis is sensitive to electromagnetic field (EMF) and its damage results in infertility. Exposure to EMF induces reactive oxygen species production and affects on anti-oxidants defense mechanisms. Metallothionein (MT) is a name for a group of low molecular weight (6-7 kDa), sulfhydryl rich proteins. Expression of MT1 and MT2 genes in testis tissue after EMF exposu...

The effects of topiramate on the acquisition and expression of morphine-induced place conditioning and behavioral sensitization in mice

Introduction: Topiramate is a newly anti-convulsant drug, which acts as NMDA glutamate receptor antagonist as well as the GABAB receptor agonist. It is used for physical dependence to opioids as well as cocaine, nicotine, alcohol and ecstasy dependence. In the present study attempts were made to further identification of the effects of topiramate on the acquisition and expression of morphine...
